Specification Overview

The GCSE Geography course follows the AQA A syllabus.  You can access a range of information from the main AQA website including past papers and examination reports.  Below is an overview of the modules we are studying and the general course structure.

Unit 1:  Physical Geography

  • 37.5% of total marks (1hr 30min exam)
  • You need to answer 3 questions – 1 question from Section A, 1 question from Section B and 1 question from either Section A or Section B (you are free to choose)
    • Section A covers The Restless Earth and Living World
    • Section B covers The Coastal Zone

Unit 2:  Human Geography

  • 37.5% of total marks (1hr 30min exam)
  • You need to answer 3 questions – 1 question from Section A, 1 question from Section B and 1 question from either Section A or Section B (you are free to choose)
    • Section A covers ___ and ___

Unit 3:  Controlled Assessment

  • 25% of total marks
  • 2,000 words written up in 6hrs under direct supervision
  • Topic is The Coastal Zone
